DRAMA IN SCHOOL
The course will introduce students to the use of drama and drama techniques in the ESL classroom. Students will learn to develop an awareness and understanding of drama as text and as performance. They will explore and experience drama techniques for the teaching of language and also drama as a performance art. They will apply basic drama techniques, such as role play, simulation, mime, short plays and total physical response strategies, into language learning strategies.
At the end of this course, the students should be able to apply their literary knowledge and skills to enable them to use drama and drama techniques in an English as a Second Language (ESL) Class. The successful students should be able to:
i. Identify important elements in drama theory and genre as text and performance
ii. Produce lesson plans that utilize drama techniques.
iii. Apply drama techniques as performance art
iv. Adapt stories into drama scripts
v. Produce a group drama presentation
